Krastyo Todorov

Krastyo Todorov was born 1959 in the Black Sea town of Burgas, Bulgaria.

In 1978 he graduates from the Art school in Kazanlak. In the period of 1981-1985 he studied painting in the University of Veliko Tarnovo “St. Cyril and Methodius”.

Defined as a master of grotesque, with his characteristic sense of humor, Krastyo Todorov (Ketza) presents the theme of alienation in an original way that does not exclude optimism as well.

The main idea in the Harlequin cycle is loneliness, alienation - the disease of modern society. The big city has no mechanisms for bringing people together, but it helps to alienate them. The development of civilization is taking us further away from nature. Harlequin, an image of loneliness, sadness, intuition, looking for lost connections. He often goes into dialogue with strange subjects: the old turntable, the shell, the fish. Ketza's pictures predispose to reflection. At first glance, with a clear and categorical storyline, they reveal many layers of people's lives. Optimism is the other parallel that so much attracts to these fantastically real plots.

His paintings are populated with fabulous themes of sad love harlequins as mentioned, defiantly naked women and strange animals. Attract attention and special pale landscapes with old houses and unique fairy land atmosphere. Generally in Ketza's paintings the time has stopped, closing a world of love, harmony and beauty. At the same time the viewer gets the feeling that behind the canvas with a playful wink at him artist, suggesting it its mellow, even hedonistic attitude towards life.
